Upgrades

Some testing applications require very high detection sensitivity, which may be beyond the capability of the PD Detection System as originally supplied.  HV Test Technology has a range of products that can increase detection sensitivity for many applications.  Specific recommendations require disclosure of the details of the test system and application.  Please submit an inquiry.

The oscilloscope display is a very useful form of readout for partial discharge testing.  It provides the experienced operator the ability to recognize interference and distinguish it from PD signals or Calibration signals.  After many hours of use, the CRT of the scope display will deteriorate and burn out. We have a stock of scope tubes for 17000 and 37000 series Biddle PD Detectors.  The CRT used in the 27000 series PD Detectors is no longer available from stock, but can be supplied on special order with a long lead-time.  As an alternative, we can modify 27000 PD Detectors for use with an external scope display.  All the Detector front panel scope controls remain active.  This more economic alternative can be provided with a shorter lead-time.   

The older Biddle PD Detectors used transient spike protection that was state-of-the-art when they were designed, but is now inadequate.  We can upgrade the built-in transient spike suppressors to current standards to provide improved protection for critical electronic components. Older Biddle PD Detectors frequently have damaged electronic components that have not completely failed, but that deteriorate the performance of the instrument.  We know where to look for these components and how to restore the instrument to its original performance capability.  For particularly severe test applications, we can provide an external Transient Surge Limiter to extend the margin of safety provided by the internal protection devices.
